Scott Memorial Hospital offers the community a wide range of free or low cost health care screenings, educational events, and support groups.









Events

Community Health Fairs
These low cost and free screening events have helped hundreds of under-insured or uninsured people to keep track of their medical data. . This is an opportunity for them to receive  at a considerably reduced price. Scott Memorial Hospital Team Members offer: blood pressure, blood sugar, body fat, cholesterol, metabolic profile, Hemoglobin A1c and men’s PSA cancer screenings. Some of the tests require pre-registration and fasting.

Bank on Good Health
  is held every spring
at the Scott County State Bank.
Thanks for Good Health is held every fall at the First Christian Church Shelter House.  


Women’s Health Night
The SMH lobby and Cenference Center will be transformed into the area's most comprehensive health events featuring free health screenings, literature, guest speakers, interactive displays, free gifts and more.  This event is held every October.    



Classes/Support Groups:

Prepared Childbirth Classes 
During these two day classes, information on prenatal care, labor and delivery, baby safety and much more will be discussed.  Tours of the delivery and post partum rooms will be offered. This class is FREE for patients delivering at SMH. There will be a $35 charge for those who are planning a delivery at another facility. All mothers are encouraged to bring their primary support person with them to the class. To schedule your class call(812)752-8528.  All classes will be held in the SMH Conference Center from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
This is a series of classes offering coordinated instruction and exercise for patients recovering from a heart attack, bypass surgery, or other related cardiac incident or procedures. Certified by the AACVPR. Rebecca Roth, RN.C, has national Certification as a Cardiovascular Nurse from the ANCC. Participation requires a physician’s order. Diabetic Diet Class
This is a FREE monthly class that teaches an in depth look at the diabetic diet. The class is taught by Registered Dietician, Andrea Elgin. Classes will be the second Tuesday of every month at 2:00pm. Registration is required. For more information call Andrea Elgin, MS, RD, CSP at 812-752-8512.

Safe Sitter
SMH nurses offer the internationally recognized “Safe Sitter” training program. To register please call 812-752-8572.

Tobacco Cessation
If you are ready to stop smoking, sign up for Scott Memorial's FREE Smoking Cessation Class.  This 13 week class meets every Thursday evening from 7-7:45pm in the Hospital Conference Center.  Instrustor Janie Field, RRT has 37 years of Respiratory Care experiience.  Please contact the nursing educator at andrea.gibson@smh1.org for more information.  Please RSVP, classes fill up fast.
