Scott Memorial Hospital Construction
Enters Next Phase

The largest construction project in the history of Scott Memorial Hospital is about half way finished. The $5.5 million project will add nearly 13,000 square foot of new space to the hospital. An additional 17,000 square feet will be renovated. The new lobby is open, and more completed space will open to the public by mid autumn. The project will be complete in early 2005.

“The construction and renovation project will create a totally new look for the hospital,” said Board of Trustee’s President Donna Farris. “But first and foremost, it will help our staff continue to deliver quality, responsive patient care.”

Scott Memorial has kept pace with medical advances through the years, but the hospital looks much the same as it did when first built in 1959. The modern appearance will be more in tune with the high-tech services offered inside the hospital.

“We are a state of the art hospital with quality services,” said Scott Memorial President Clifford D. Nay. “Our new addition will be a reflection of our medical expertise and will help our staff better serve the needs of our patients. Our primary focus is on function and patient care.”
A central point of the new addition will be an expanded Emergency Department. The department will nearly triple in size.

“The design will allow better traffic flow and security by creating a “diagnostic core” of clinical departments that will be away from patient traffic patterns,” Nay continued. It will no longer be necessary for emergency patients to move through public areas for medical imaging and other tests.”
Registration will also have major changes to facilitate patient privacy. Separate entrances and waiting areas for outpatient and emergency patients will ease crowding and allow patient registration to be done away from the waiting areas.

Other departments scheduled for renovation or expansion include Obstetrics, Cardiopulmonary, Lab, the Gift Shop and the Conference Center.

The design allows for future growth on the hospital campus,” Farris continued. “We want to continue to provide the best quality of care in a prompt and responsive manner as part of our duty as the health care provider of choice for Scott County.”

Future plans may include an attached medical office building, an in-house MRI unit and other changes. For additional information, call John Sheckler at 752 8542.
