Coloring contest winner Deborah Sterrenberg
from Lexington Elementary School with Kenny Brown of the
Scott Memorial Hospital Cardiopulmonay Care Department.

Smoking Just Ain't Cool was the theme for the
5th annual Anti-Smoking Coloring Contest
for Scott County 3rd grade students.

Cardiopulmonary Care Manager Neva Randolph and her staff run the contest in observance of National Respiratory Care Week in October. They create a new theme each year beginning with a fish and the theme “Don’t Get Hooked on Smoking.” That was followed with a frog and the slogan “Smoke, Choke, Croak,” a honeybee advising “Bee Smart, Don’t Start,” and a Smoking Stinks Skunk.

This year’s theme, Smoking Just Ain't Cool featured a mule with a pack of smokes on his back, and the phrase "Don't be a Stubborn Ole Mule, Smoking Just Ain't Cool.

“We need to make an impact on our children at an nearly age. Over 400,000 people
are diagnosed with smoking related lung and heart diseases every year,” said Randolph. “If we can reach them at an early age, we can reduce the number of people dying from these diseases and enhance the quality of the children’s lives.”
