Dr. Sivamohan joined the Scott Memorial Hospital staff after serving a Family Practice internship and a residency at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. She gained extensive experience in primary care during her training at UK Hospital, the largest general hospital in Kentucky.

As a child, Dr. Sivamohan was drawn to medicine because she spent a lot of time in hospitals with her father who had asthma. The local Family Practice Physician in her native Sri Lanka became a role model for Dr. Sivamohan and influenced her decision to practice medicine.

“We lived in a rural area and I was very attached to the physician who treated our family,” Dr. Sivamohan continued. “He was like a family member. He treated the whole family, my mother, my sisters and my aunts.”

Parent education about ways to avoid health risks for children is high on the list of priorities for Dr. Sivamohan.

“Smoking tobacco is the only health risk we can control that can cause cancer from head to toe,” she said. “Even second hand smoke is deadly. It is heart breaking to see innocent children exposed to poisons from their parents smoking. These kids have not done anything wrong, but have to suffer because the parents smoke around them.”
