Care Events |
Scott Memorial Hospital offers the community a wide range of
free or low cost health care screenings, educational opportunities
and support groups.
Our events are listed in The Giveaway, The Scott County Journal,
The Courier Journal, I-105.3-FM Radio and other area newspapers.

Cholesterol, Met Panel & Men's PSA
Low cost cholesterol and men's PSA cancer screenings
are held annually at the following events:
Bank on Good Health is held in early March at the
Scott County State Bank. The bank is also the location for other
health care events such as the EmployCare flu vaccination program.
Thanks for Good Health is held in early November
at the Scottsburg First Christian Church.
The metabolic profile includes calcium, glucose,
electrolytes, potassium, sodium, CO2, chloride, Creatinine and BUN
(Blood Urea Nitrogen). These levels indicate risk factors for certain
heart or kidney problems.
The cholesterol test is a full Lipid Panel testing,
which in addition to the total triglycerides and cholesterol levels
includes High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). The measurement of HDL
is helpful to physicians in determining the risk of coronary heart
disease. Physicians at Scott Memorial Hospital place a high importance
on knowing and controlling coronary risk factors. |
Free
Student Athletic Physicials
Each summer, Scott Memorial Hospital physicians volunteer their time
to provide free athletic screenings to area students.
There is one night of screenings at the hospital, but most of the
screenings take place in the offices of the physicians who have
volunteered for the project.
School officials will distribute a letter with registration details
during the final days of the school year. There are more than a
dozen dates and times available between early June and mid August.
A complete list of physicians and dates will be posted on this web
site in late May. |
