Get Smart
The Jewish Hospital Network is now a partner with the CDC,
the Centers for Disease Control, in an effort to alert the public of the medical dangers of the over use of antibiotics.

Antibiotics are drugs that fight infections caused by bacteria, not viruses.

Infections such as colds, cough or flu are caused by viruses, not bacteria. Using antibiotics for these problems can cause
antibiotic resistance

Join us in the effort to reduce unnecessary prescription of antibiotics. Learn when to use and when not to use antibiotics on the CDC website.

Smoking can kill you...  and those near you

Smoking is a major risk factor in many deaths including cancer, stroke and heart attack. Even second hand smoke can kill.

See what Scott Memorial staff members are doing to help lower the smoking related death and illness rate for babies and children.

Scott Memorial Hospital
Will No longer Provide
Free Athletic Screenings

Scott Memorial Hospital will no longer provide the free athletic screening program offered to area junior high school and high school athletes. Physicians have voiced concerns that the standard athletic screenings offered across the country no longer meet modern medical demands.

According to the National Association of State Boards of Education, 20 student athletes die each year from injuries, heat or undiagnosed heart conditions. Many of these deaths are related to reactions to the students’ prescription drugs. The primary concern is that there are a large number of students who take prescription drugs to deal with ailments such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or asthma.
Scott Memorial Hospital physicians feel a more thorough exam is needed for the students. They cite the need to spend more time with the students to better analyze the patient history and prescription drugs taken by the students. This is also a serious liability issue for the facility and the physicians.

Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with their family physician to complete the Indiana High School Athletic Association sports authorization form.

Students without a family physician can search for one HERE.
