Scott Memorial Hospital Names 2017 Mercy Award Winner

Scottsburg, Indiana (May 31, 2017) – Scott Memorial recently announced that Glenna Lakins has been recognized as the hospital’s 2017 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At Scott Memorial, we share LifePoint’s commitment to Making Communities Healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said Mike Everett, CEO of Scott Memorial Hospital. “We are extremely proud to recognize Glenna for her efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. She goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person she encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”

Glenna has been with the organization for more than 30 years. She oversees the ultrasound studies where she maintains the standards to meet state and federal regulations.  She has been an advocate for the schools, hospital, and other community events to support women health and adoption as an option.   She was instrumental in implementing a Safe Haven program in the county, which creates an avenue for mothers unable to care for their children a judgment free way to get the infants into a safe environment.  Glenna also volunteers her time and talents with the local C.R.A.D.L.E. chapter, a pregnancy resource center, providing ultrasounds to help mothers connect with their unborn children.  She was nominated for this award by her coworkers who commented, “she inspires me to be the best I can be”, “she truly cares for her patients”, and “her skills with radiology and ultrasound technology, along with her willingness to teach others, has enabled her to touch and save many lives in our community.”

Each hospital winner, including Glenna, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2017 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which Glenna and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
