Scott Memorial Hospital Welcomes New Community Health Outreach Coordinator

Scott Memorial Hospital announced Monday, September 29 that Shannon Carroll, RN, BSN has been appointed as the new Community Health Outreach Coordinator.  “Shannon Carroll has a deep  understanding of the need to improve the health of communities,” said Katy Hutchinson, Director of Business Development and Physician Relations at Scott Memorial Hospital.  “She has demonstrated success regarding community health initiatives and I am confident she will lead Scott Memorial Hospital as well as Scott County and surrounding communities to improved health.”

Ms. Carroll returns to Scott Memorial Hospital where she served as Director of Community Outreach, Occupational Medicine,  Staff Education and Cardiac Rehab from 2006 through 2008.  She is also an experienced Emergency Department Nurse who is certified in BLS and ACLS. During the last 6 years Ms. Carroll served at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services as Healthy Communities Initiative Coordinator.  She was responsible for all community outreach activities and screenings and completed a community health needs assessment and comprehensive implementation plan.  She initiated and led three coalitions:  Physical Activity, Improving Nutrition, Tobacco Prevention and Cessation.

Ms. Carroll is a Jamey Aebersold Red Ribbon Spirit of Hope Award Winner, Healthy Communities Institute Achievement Award Winner and a nominee for the Medistar Healthcare Advocacy Award. She has also received recognition in the following publications “Planting a Healthier Community”, News and Tribune Newspaper;  “When a Simple Screening is a Life Saver”, Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services “Healthscope” Magazine; “Your Health: A Community Endeavor”, Southern Living Magazine; and “Time to Quit”, M.D. Update Magazine.  Shannon’s speaking engagements include, “Prostate Cancer: Shifting Resources to Focus on True Needs”, National video through Healthy Communities Institute; “Oncology Strategy and Community Benefit”, National VHA Webinar for Strategy, Oncology and Community Benefit Professionals; “Extreme Couponing”, “Healthy Eating on A Budget”, “Self-Esteem”, “Business Etiquette”; “Gluten Free on a Budget”; and “Mother’s Day Sermon”, presented at Vienna Baptist Church.

 Ms. Carroll has served in a volunteer capacity as the Assistant Director of LifeWorks Summer EXCEL Program; LifeWorks Field of Dreams Playground; Orphan Care Alliance; Facilitator for Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Classes; March 2, 2012 Tornado Relief and Recovery.  She is a member of the Wellness Coalition of Southern Indiana, Vienna Baptist Church Health Ministries Team, VHA Regional Community Benefit Directors Council, American Hospital Association Community Health Leaders.

Shannon resides in Scott County with her husband David Carroll, Pastor of Vienna Baptist Church and three sons, Caleb, Reid and Evan.
